01 — The Brief
A resort defined by its mangroves needed photography that proved it.
Ras Al Khaimah's mangrove coastline is what sets this property apart from resorts anywhere else in the UAE — and the existing photography wasn't showing it. This commission rebuilt the visual library space by space: matching framing, light, and color across every before-and-after pair so the mangrove setting, the water, and the resort's actual finish all read consistently. Being based and available across Ras Al Khaimah meant the shoot could work around tide and light conditions specific to the mangroves, rather than being scheduled around a single flying visit.
Tidal & Mangrove Light
The mangrove channels change character completely with the tide — water level, reflection, and color shift through the day, so shot timing was built around tide tables, not just sun position.
Matching Brand Standards
Every frame needed to align with Rotana's existing brand guidelines for color, crop, and composition, so the refreshed set could slot directly into their marketing library without a style mismatch.
Live Resort Operations
Shooting took place around a fully operating resort — guest rooms, communal spaces, and mangrove-facing amenities all needed to be captured without disrupting service or guest privacy.

03 — Questions
Commissioning a before-and-after shoot.
- Do you shoot hotel and resort photography in Ras Al Khaimah?
- Yes. Although Johnseye is based in Dubai, resort and hotel photography across Ras Al Khaimah is a regular part of the work — this before-and-after commission for Rotana's Mangroves property is one example. Being available on the ground in RAK means shoots can be scheduled around the emirate's specific tide and light conditions rather than squeezed into a single day trip.
- What makes photographing a mangrove-front resort different?
- The mangroves are a tidal environment, so the setting changes character completely through the day — water level, reflections, and colour all shift with the tide, not just with the sun. Shot timing on this commission was built around tide tables as much as golden hour, so the water and the mangrove fringe read at their best in every frame.
- How long does a before-and-after resort refresh take in Ras Al Khaimah?
- A resort-wide refresh is typically planned as one on-site day per zone — rooms, public spaces, dining, and waterfront each get their own window. In Ras Al Khaimah the schedule is built around the tide as well as the light: mangrove-facing exteriors and waterfront terraces are held for the tidal windows that show them best, while interiors can be worked through the middle of the day.
- Can you shoot around live guests and daily resort operations?
- Yes. This commission was photographed while the resort was fully operating. We work space by space in coordination with housekeeping and the front office, keep the kit footprint small, and never photograph guests or occupied areas without explicit consent.
- What's delivered, and what usage rights come with it?
- Fully retouched, colour-matched files in web and print resolution, plus crops sized for OTA platforms, website and social. Standard licensing covers unlimited use on your own website, OTA listings, social channels and press. Paid campaign and third-party brand use is licensed separately and priced before the shoot.
- Do you travel to other parts of the UAE and GCC for commissions?
- Yes. Commissions run across the UAE and the wider GCC — Ras Al Khaimah and Dubai are both regularly worked locations, alongside Abu Dhabi, Doha and Saudi Arabia. Travel and logistics are quoted up front as part of a fixed project fee.
02 — The Result
A resort photographed like the mangroves are the point.
The delivered set gave Rotana's Mangroves property a unified before-and-after library — proof of the upgrade for internal stakeholders, and a ready-to-use asset set for OTA listings, the website, and brand marketing that finally shows Ras Al Khaimah's mangrove setting as the property's defining feature rather than a backdrop.
